Using Emoticons

Using Emotes on dA

One of the best things about emoticons is being able to use them within conversation. However, finding out how to use emoticons around deviantART can be a little confusing. There are actually several ways which you can use emoticons around the site and the methods are neatly summed up within one tutorial:

How can i locate the 'emoticon legend'?

The emoticon legend is a list of official deviantART emoticons made by members within the community. The legend list can be found here and can also be located my clicking the 'emoticons' link when writing comments.

The original deviations of the emoticon legend can also be located on this page

How can i locate the 'mood emoticons'?

The emoticon mood system is the range of emoticons found on the right hand side when you write a comment. If you select a mood, the emote chosen shows in the top right corner of the comment'.

You can add a single mood emote to any comment by simply selecting it from the list on the right hand side. You are also able to add a mood to your journal.

The original deviations for the mood emoticons can be found on this page

How do i make a plz account?

If you want to make a plz account but aren't quite sure, then check out this useful tutorial:

How do i use emotes in a pack?

Sadly whole packs of emoticons can't be used on deviantART without each emote being uploaded individually as a deviation or plz account. If you find an emote in a pack you would love to use then speak with the creator to see if this can be arranged.

Packs can however be used on other sites (with owners permission) and on IM programs such as msn. To access the pack download it and then select to 'extract all files'. This should allow you to obtain the individual emoticons.

If you are unsure how to add them to msn, you can check out this tutorial:
